Don’t Talk Back!
Teachers say it, I’ve said it, you’ve probably said it. There are times when kids are
just plain annoying. Why – Why – Why? Stop a minute and analyze what is really going
on. Maybe these antics, these “games” aren’t meant to drive you crazy, but are really
pleas for your attention. Maybe the “talking back” is because you haven’t seen their
perspective. It’s easy to say “Because I told you so.” Did that really help the
situation? That was just frustration talking.
Put your hand up to signal “STOP”. Take
a deep breath, a pause. Ask your kids what they really need, want, disagree with.
Listening isn’t giving in, it’s caring. Maybe they need your attention. They don’t
have a reason, they just want YOU. Maybe they need a hug, a sit and talk time or milk
and cookies. Really listening can diffuse almost every tense moment, even with a
spouse or co-worker.
As the year winds down, we would like you to “talk back” to us. Discovery Park
is an experiment. I knew playgrounds were incredibly boring, so I challenged
myself to design and build a better playground. Some ideas bombed before we
even built them. Some seemed good until we watched the kids try to use it
(back to the drawing board). But overall, we think our experiment is working.
So, talk back to us! As we work on development and marketing for next year,
your recommendations, comments, short videos or insights would be much appreciated.
Give it to us straight! Just respond to this at the bottom of the email.
Whatever you send us, please copy the verbiage below into your email. We
don’t need your last name, but first name and last initial says “valid”.
This waiver permits any photos or videos submitted of your children and
adventures at Discovery Park to be used in promotional material for Discovery
Park Ohio. No compensation will be provided.
Cindy and I would love to thank each of you for your support and encouragement
since we started building the park in 2019. You have ALL been wonderful
to get to know.
It’s Fun Being a Kid Again!
Let’s have some fun at Discovery Park!
That’s what good play is all about.
No directions, nobody telling you that “you can’t do it that way”.
It’s pure discovery!
