Did You Ask Your Kids?
Memorial Day weekend is a big family time with lots of get togethers and cookouts.
There are parades to watch and plenty of special events. But did you ask your kids
what they would like to do?
They might say, “Let’s go to Discovery Park!” Who am I to argue with such a
great idea? Pack a meal or just some snacks. Spread an old blanket on the grass and
have an old-fashioned picnic. If we have a light rain, that’s even more fun because
warm summer rains can be exhilarating to run and play in.
The goats and chickens are ready to be petted and fed, and there’s a new Play
Barn for the toddlers. It’s also a great place for new moms to rest, chat or feed the new ones.
The airplane is now in the air and can be “flown” by the older kids. There is a
new dance floor by “Jammin Tree” music area and a giant merry-go-round that can
hold dozens of kids. Maybe the roller coaster will be working too.
Even though you’ve been here before, every visit is a new adventure for kids.
As they grow, their skills are also changing. What they couldn’t do before is now doable.
We also have Tipis available for rent this weekend. Talk about a memorable event.
You must spend a night in a Tipi! Sitting around the fire telling stories and sleeping
in a totally different kind of space is a must do. I lived in a Tipi for two months
when I was a summer camp counselor. Absolutely loved it! Call us to make your reservation.
We would love to see each of you this summer. Bring some friends and let the kids
play together. So much for marketing.
So you can’t come this weekend – at least take the kids to a park and let
them explore. It’s not about getting to the end of the trail. It’s about the
discoveries along the way. Remember – it’s all new and exciting to your kids!
P.S. I worked at Cedar Point as a river boat captain when I was in college.
It was a great summer. But there is difference between entertainment and adventure.
Cedar point is mostly entertainment – rides. You wait in line, get on, ride, get off,
go to the next ride. It’s fun, but there isn’t much discovery (learning) going on.
That’s why we have no “rides” at our park. We want the kids to discover and figure things out!
It’s Fun Being a Kid Again!
Let’s have some fun at Discovery Park!
That’s what good play is all about.
No directions, nobody telling you that “you can’t do it that way”.
It’s pure discovery!
