I Don’t Get You!
Your kids don’t think like you!
Obviously your kids minds haven’t developed yet to the same level as an adult. But there may be something
bigger at play than you realize....
Our brains aren’t all wired the same.
Schools are mostly based on “wordsmith” brains – processing and using words effectively. But many kids
struggle because words are not how their brain works.
Lets look at some other types of brain “processing”....
Wordsmith: They can create a scene in your mind that dances with life just by using the right words that
connect with your soul.
Music: Vibration is everything – how to make it, work with it, enjoy it. It’s more than listening to songs.
They sing, they drum the table, every instrument has to be tried. They create their own songs, turn
everything into sounds.
Taste/Smell: The nose and mouth are supreme. Smell every flower, everything has to be tasted. They know
what’s for dinner by the smell. They want to cook and try different seasonings and they love gardens and flowers.
Competitive: Games are everything. It is not so much about winning as it is about the challenge. Competing on a
field or a screen, alone or on a team. It’s the challenge.
Kids are looking for reinforcement. “Look at me, look at what I can do”. They are asking for your
understanding and participation in their new skill levels. They seek approval. Even though their mind
maybe isn’t processing the same way yours does, they need be assured in their journey.

Analytical: Why, why, why? Never happy with a simple answer, they want to know in detail why the sky
is blue and how does bread rise.
Body Movement: They’re always moving – dancing – gesturing – running. Their whole body wants to
connect with the world. They feel the beat or they create their own beat.
Grower: Connected to the earth. They are passionate about plants, soil, weather and how they are
connected. They talk to the plants and they can hear the plants talk back.
Intuition: They just know. Can’t explain it, it just comes to them. They know what will happen
next, what someone is thinking. Their insights surprise people, even themselves.
Compassion: They see the world through the eyes of others. Maybe they can sense an animals feelings.
They love everybody they meet because they feel their energy.
Inventor/Innovator: Inventors come up with totally new ideas. Innovators take existing ideas and
take it to the next level. The mind is constantly thinking, watching, interpreting. Can’t shut it off.
Problem Solver: Born to fix things. If it doesn’t work, they will make it right again or maybe better.
Builder: Hammers and tools, 3D printers, clay, steel or cement. All are items that can be
manipulated and worked with to create.
Artist: Study the flow, the colors, shape, movement. An artist, no matter what media,
is passionate about communicating with light and vision.
3D Thinking: Does your mind visualize a building just by looking at the plans. Can you turn that
building around in your head and know what the back looks like too?
All our minds work differently. We may have strong energies in just one of the above.
Maybe you can paint a beautiful picture, but someone else has to make the frame. Maybe
you’re a generalist and have a variety of skills. Just keep in “mind”, that just because
this is the way your mind works doesn’t mean your kid’s mind works the same way. Nor does
your spouses, best friend, co-worker, boss....
That’s what makes life exciting!
