Yep, it’s time to talk about Mud Pie Bakery at Discovery Park Ohio. It’s not particularly fancy. Just a table with some old pans, spoons and baking tins. Add a bucket of mud and one of water and let’s make something.

Inspired by Mud!

It’s so fun to watch the magic unfolding. Let’s get the mud in a mixing bowl, add a little water, mix, scoop into a muffin pan. Needs a little sand from the sandbox sprinkled on top. These pebbles will look good and a wild flower over there can be picked to go on this muffin.

Some kids, both boys and girls really get into this. They’re imitating mom in their own world. Their creation will be served in the cafe just up the stairs. The diners are waiting in anticipation of my wonderful creation. Reality is in the back seat. Imagination is in control.

Maybe they will become a chef or a baker. Maybe it will just be great meals for my future family. Maybe I’ll be a cookie master and open up a store or sell at a farmers market. They’re covered in mud – clothes, hands, face and loving it. What shall we bake next!

If this is your kid. They’re ready to start learning how to really bake and cook. Take them in the kitchen and start teaching them.

Cooking with mom and dad is incredibly exciting for kids. Perfection isn’t important. It’s the special time with you that is everything! Keep it fun, they’re not in a culinary school.

That’s what good play is all about.

No directions, nobody telling you that
“you can’t do it that way”.
